He has previously been Director of the Museum of Arts and Design; Head of Research at the V&A; and Curator at the Chipstone Foundation in Milwaukee. Adamson’s publications include _Fewer Better Things_ (2019); _Art in the Making_ (2016, co-authored with Julia Bryan-Wilson); _The Invention of Craft_ (2013); _Postmodernism: Style and Subversion_ (2011); _The Craft Reader_ (2010); and _Thinking Through Craft_ (2007). He contributes regularly to _Art in America_. Adamson was the co-curator of _Crafting America_ at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (2021); _Objects: USA 2020_ at R & Company Gallery (2021); _Voulkos: The Breakthrough Years_ at MAD (2016); _Beazley Designs of the Year 2017_, at the Design Museum, London; and _Things of Beauty Growing: British Studio Pottery_, at the Yale Center for British Art (2017). His biographical study of the artist Lenore Tawney is included in the John Michael Kohler Art Center’s exhibition catalogue _Mirror of the Universe_. His book _Craft: An American History_ was published by Bloomsbury in January 2021. He is currently at work on _A Century of Tomorrows_, a new book about the history of the future.
