### About
Linda McIntosh is a Lao-American writer and curator based in Luang Prabang, Laos, a UNESCO World Heritage center where daily life is still marked by the rhythm of the temple bells. Growing up in the United States, Linda was introduced to the craft of textile weaving as a child through her mother, but it was only as an adult that she felt the urge to connect deeper to her Laotian heritage. During her master's and doctoral degrees, she carried out research on Southeast Asian Textiles, doing fieldwork in Laos and Thailand, where she has been living for the past two decades. Despite not being a professional weaver herself, she has found a way to pass down the tradition through her writing. She has published various books on Southeast Asian textiles, such as *Art of Southeast Asian Textiles: The Tilleke and Gibbins Collection* (Serindia, 2012) and a chapter in World Ikat (HALI, forthcoming). She also works to support contemporary textile makers in finding new and international markets for their traditional and contemporary works.
When she is not documenting, curating, or writing about Southeast Asian textiles and other handicrafts, like basketry or goldwork, she enjoys gardening and raising orchids near the margins of the Mekong river, where she lives.
Book recommendation: *Textiles of Southeast Asia: Tradition, Trade, and Transformation* by Robyn J. Maxwell (1990)
